Eating For Stress Relief
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009The biggest emotional reason people eat is for
Stress Relief.
The mind is working fast, your thoughts are
flashing quickly in and out of your mind. You can’t
concentrate on one thing.You need to slow down,
so you eat.
By eating, you fill your stomach which slows down
your racing mind.
A relaxed feeling comes over you due to the
chemical changes the full stomach has on
your body and all its systems.
Chemicals are released into the blood stream
causing the blood flow to the digestive system to
increase , which decreases the flow to the brain
and large muscle groups.
Since the brain and the large muscles have less
blood flow there is less actively. These actions
cause you to become relaxed and sometimes a
little drowsy.
The main purpose of Eating was to calm your
system, but you still have the Stress chemicals
floating in your system plus the extra food
which adds to your Health problems.
Your body and mind work together. When the
mind is Stressed the body will become Stressed.
By relaxing your body you will give Stress Relief
to your mind. Get up and move around to relieve
the tension in your body or take a few deep
breathes and count to five as your exhale.
Break your focus on your problem by changing
your environment. Walk away from your desk so
you don’t hear the constant ringing of the phone.
If you can’t leave the area, close your eyes and
remember a happy time you had, recall playing with
your pet, or some silly thing that happened to you.
Think of anything that will bring a smile to your
face.
Keep your eyes close while you think of a
pleasant time for a few seconds, when you open
them you will feel better.
Stress has become a part of everyday life. A
bad habit many people have, is Eating due to
Stress, which only leads to further Health
problems.
