Eating For Stress Relief

The biggest emotional reason people eat is for

Stress Relief.

The mind is working fast, your thoughts are
flashing quickly in and out of your mind. You can’t
concentrate on one thing.You need to slow down,
so you eat.

By eating, you fill your stomach which slows down
your racing mind.

A relaxed feeling comes over you due to the
chemical changes the full stomach has on
your body and all its systems.

Chemicals are released into the blood stream
causing the blood flow to the digestive system to
increase , which decreases the flow to the brain
and large muscle groups.

Since the brain and the large muscles have  less
blood flow there is less actively. These actions
cause you to become relaxed and sometimes a
little drowsy.

The main purpose of Eating was to calm your
system, but you still have the Stress chemicals
floating in your system plus the extra food
which adds to your Health problems.

Your body and mind work together. When the
mind is Stressed the body will become Stressed.
By relaxing your body you will give Stress Relief
to your mind. Get up and move around to relieve
the tension in your body or take a few deep
breathes and count to five as your exhale.

Break your focus on your problem by changing
your environment. Walk away from your desk so
you don’t hear the constant ringing of the phone.

If you can’t leave the area, close your eyes and
remember a happy time you had, recall playing with
your pet, or some silly thing that happened to you.

Think of anything that will bring a smile to your
face.

Keep your eyes close while you think of a
pleasant time for a few seconds, when you open
them you will feel better.

Stress has become a part of everyday life. A
bad habit many people have, is Eating due to
Stress, which only leads to further Health
problems.

Emotions and Overeating

Most people Overeat for Emotional Reasons .

These reasons vary from person to person but can
be grouped into several categories. All the reasons
for Overeating may solve one problem but adds
Overweight problem to the person’s Health issues .

The main category for Overeating is the person is
Stressed and uses food to obtain a calm feeling .
You can be Stressed about work, about a loss of
a person, or about overspending.

Next the person feels bored .This can be due to a job
loss, a death, or extra time without anything to do.
By fixing a snack or meal, the person is occupied,
taking their mind off boredom. Of course you don’t
throw away good food, so the person Overeats.

Another category , we need to please people . Children
often eat more to please their parents. While older
people don’t want to offend someone. Your mother
makes your favorite dessert and she would be
offended if you didn’t eat after all her hard work.

Before Overeating next time, ask yourself why you
are taking that next bite. Do you truly need the food
or are you Eating for Emotional Reasons ?

Once you understand why you Overeat, you can
take steps to prevent it . You are the only one who
can prevent yourself from Overeating. Eat smart
and your body will reward you with better Health.

Why People Overeat.

The answer to the question may seem to be
obvious to you. We need to eat to stay alive.
If that was true then why are there so many
overweight people?

Many overweight people don’t only eat to stay
alive but have various other reasons for eating.

1. The biggest reason people eat is for stress
relief. The mind is working fast, your
thoughts are flashing quicking in and out
of your mind. You can’t concentrate on one
thing. You need to slow down, so you eat.

2. People are bored and need something to do.
It is easy to walk to the kitchen and grab some
food. Why not made a little something else to go
with your snack? It taste so good, and you have
time for another helping.

3.As a child our believes are influenced by what
our parents tell us. Eating habits are learn at
a young age, such as it is wrong to leave food
on your plate. When you grow older, you don’t
leave food on your plate because you believe
subconsciously it is wrong if you do.

4. In todays’ face pace work environment, you
are overloaded with work. It seems there isn’t
enough time to do everything, so it is easy to
set things aside. Many people do just that by
skipping eating time. When they finally grab a
few minutes to eat, the food is just
"shoveled in" and "gulped down".

5. People are on a Diet and binge eat at night
because they are so hungry and can’t control
themselves.

6. People who are depressed or are in a situation
without any control, will Overeat for control, they
know they are overeating but continue to prove
that they are in control of their body.

Although eating is necessary to survive many
people Overeat for a variety of reasons which
may be a sign of underlying problems that need
to be resolved first.

Overeating leads to many Health problems but it
may be necessary to understand why someone
Overeats to resolve the eating problem.
