Start Eating Healthy

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Healthy eating is important for maintaining bodily function and living a disease-free life. Breaking unhealthy habits can be the most difficult part of the process. However, if you want to live the best lifestyle possible, it is important to start eating a more healthy diet.

A good beginning step is to rid you home of all unhealthy foods. Keep junk foods and beverages out of your house so that you will not be tempted to snack during the day. If you’re worried about getting hungry, keep healthy snacks like carrot sticks, yogurt, fresh fruit, or whole-wheat crackers on hand.

If you find that you cannot bear to toss out the sweets, try keeping something tiny on hand, like chocolate chips. Eating a few of these won’t ruin your diet but  will give you that little sugary fix you crave.

Another step is to take a few moments to learn about what foods are the healthiest for you and how they work in the body. Most people understand that fruits, vegetables, and low-fat meats and dairy products are good for you, but don’t understand why.

Knowledge really is power! When you understand how specific nutrients work in the body, you will be more likely to make healthy choices.

To prepare for a new healthy diet, you should also take into consideration your schedule for meals. If you eat in a rushed hurry at odd times of day, you probably are not getting the best foods possible.

Plan ahead! Instead of grabbing a fast food lunch on the go, take a bagged lunch to work, complete with a healthy wrap and some fresh vegetables. If you are not getting healthy dinners and have little time to cook, prepare the food ahead of time.

Start with baby steps. Even if you only replace one soda a day with a glass of water, you are improving your calorie intake. If you eat fast food every day for lunch, try replacing that part of the time with a bag lunch. When you start by taking small steps, it does not seem like you are cutting out all of the foods you love and you can take your time to learn about healthy foods which you can love equally as well.

At first it takes time to plan your diet, but the end results of a healthier you will be your reward for the rest of your life. With a little change you can be eating healthy soon.

What is a Healthy Eater?

Everyone eats, but a Healthy Eater knows the food
needed for a Healthy Diet. You don’t need to know
how to count calories, but looking at the labels will
help to inform you if the product is a Healthy food.

Grains are considered to be a Healthy food. Many
food products are made from grains, giving a wide
variety of foods for the Diet. The problem is, which
product is Healthy for you? To judge read the labels.
It only takes a few seconds and can make a
difference in your Health.

Food label can mislead you if you don’t understand
what the words mean.

Looking at the label on the bread you notice "Fortified
with Vitamins and calcuim". It sounds Healthy
unless you understand what "fortified"means .

A food that is "fortified" means the essential
vitamins, and other nutrients where taken out
during processing and are put back in later to meet
requirements. Of course, the missing nutrients put
in are cheap chemical substitutes not the
natural ones.

Since the body was made to function on natural
things and not chemicals, the body may react
differenty to the added chemicals.

It is like having a high power car that only uses high
octane gas. You put in the low octane gas, the car
loses it’s power and you hear engine knocking
sounds. Sure you have a full tank of gas, but no
pick up power and strange sounds coming from
the engine.

The food that you eat has the same affect. The
body can only use what you provide. If you don’t
provide the needed nutrition, the only choice is
to use what is there.

What happens to the added chemicals? Do the
chemicals sit there in your body or float around
causing all kinds of problems? Sometime it takes
years for scientists to find the answers to how
the chemicals affect your Diet and Health.

Everyone has to eat to stay alive. What you eat
will affect your Health. Since all foods are not
created equally you need to be informed about
which foods are best for your Health. Take time
to read the labels so you can be informed and
be a Healthy Eater.

By being a Healthy Eater, your body will be able
to use the food more effectively and you will
maintain a normal Healthy weight.
