Texas Statistics On Overweight People
Wednesday, May 28th, 2008In the Dallas Texas metropolis there are a number of higher educational institutes which periodically send health article to local residences through various hospital groups. One such article was sent to me. Since I am interested in overweight and obese people, the statistics caught my attention. The overweight problem has plagued people for several years and now it is finally becoming a public concern. According to the Texas Comptroller department in 2005, obesity costed Texas businesses an estimated 3.3 billions dollars. If left unchecked the price could be 15.8 billion dollars by 2025.
So who are all these overweight and obese people. This may surprise you. The adults had 25.8%, while the younger population had 42 % of fourth graders, 39% of the eighth grades and 36% of 11th grades, who were overweight or at risk of becoming overweight. Notice that each of the younger population groups had more than the adults. To me that seems to indicate that the overweight problem in the future will be HUGH. How will that affect the cost of business? What about the sky rocking health care cost? People in the health care industry will definetly have their work to do.
Since I don’t have statistics for other states there is no way I can compare these figures. But the United States as a whole is the same. Most all general grocery stores carry the same canned goods, candies, fruits, vegatables and meats, and most states have fast food places such as MacDonald, Burger King, Wendys ect. There may be some varations in some of the statistics, I still believe the result will be the same, the younger people are becoming fatter each year. This is a trend in America.
These statistics show that not only has the public and businesses ignored this problem, but the schools are also turning a blind eye toward the problem. The schools are suppose to teach basic health concepts. What is healthy about obesity in children?
