Stress is the body's attempt to establish equilibruim in
a reaction to a stimuli. The body' reaction makes no
distinction between Good Stress or Bad Stress. The end
results of the Stress, is what determines the level of
damage to the system.
In our society, we have been conditioned to think that
allStress is bad. How do you recognize
the Different Types of Stress?
By the effect ot the Stress on you.
Good Stress helps you do things better by motivating
and exciting you when meeting challenges. Although
at first this may not be true, but as you get into the
" flow" of the challenge, the energy and enthusiasm
becomes more apparent. Problems seem to almost solve
themselves and situations are all under control. It
doesn't turn out to be the dreaded task you had first
envisaged. At the finish, you feel good about
work and you have more confidence in yourself.
Bad Stress causes you to feel like you're in an uphill
battle, never being able to reach the hill top. Try as
hard as you can, insurmounatable problems are
ever present. You may give up. You feel frustration,
anxiety, low self esteem and a lack of confidence.
Many times these feeling are buried; then suddenly
surface when faced with another similar situation.
Often times we are faced with work overload that
prevents us from seeing the Effects of Stress on
ourselves. Here are a few simple warning signs of
how Stress can Effect our Productivity: -
While speaking with a coworker or customer, your
mind wanders to tasks that you should be
doing. You are trying to complete everything in an
unworkable time frame which, in turn, prevents you
from giving your full attention to the conversation,
causing you to miss pertinent information.
-
You have difficulty understanding another person's
solution to a particular problem. The part of the
brain responsible for rational and logical thinking
is hampered by other pressing thoughts, such as
penalties for late performance, resulting in
primitive single focus. -
You just consumed a meal and suddenly
experience an upset stomach. During stress,
the stomach function is shut down to allow the
other bodily systems to function more effectively,
resulting in your inability to fully concentrate on
the task at hand. Mistakes can often be the end result.
Most of the Bad Stress is usually the results of
poor work habits, such as trying to do too much in
a short time period, or not taking time to eat.
Examine your work habits, carefully. See if you can
eliminate the negative work Stress and improve both
your health and productivity
